Important Care Information

Kwila timber contains natural tannins that help keep the timber hydrated and minimise cracking and warping. During the first few exposures to rain or moisture, these tannins may naturally leach from the timber and can stain light-coloured surfaces, fabrics, cushions or decking.

To significantly reduce the chance of staining, we recommend completing a simple one-time bleeding process before placing your furniture into service.

How to Bleed Your Kwila Furniture

  1. Place the furniture on a grassed area or another surface that won't be affected by tannin runoff.

  2. Thoroughly wet the furniture and keep it wet for approximately two hours using a hose or sprinkler.

  3. Turn the furniture over and repeat the process, ensuring the underside and feet are well saturated.

  4. Continue the process until the runoff water is clear and no longer has a light brown colour.

  5. Allow the furniture to dry completely.

  6. To help maintain the rich honey-brown colour of the timber, apply a quality coat of boiled linseed oil or a suitable timber protector once the furniture has dried.
